GETTING THERE

GETTING TO HAWAII

There are a number of airlines that fly to Hawaii direct from Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney:
  • Qantas
  • Jetstar
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Virgin Australia
There are other options that fly via New Zealand or Fiji, or even Japan, but these add unnecessary travelling time and often, if you are flexible with dates, are not that much cheaper.

Flying time is about 10 hours from Australia non stop, most flights there are overnight, arriving very early in the morning, Hawaiian time.

SEARCH FLIGHTS

Our search tool will find the best deal across all airlines for you to compare, just change the starting location and destination and it will find the best option.

HOW TO FIND A DEAL

Make sure you search across multiple dates and airlines, there are always sales rotating across different months. If you are able to, travelling outside of school holidays is best, we have seen flights with Jetstar for as little as $400 return per person during the 'off season'. See our 'when to go' page for more info about the best times to visit the islands.

Flying between islands is easy, and its often cheaper to book direct with local airline partners rather than as part of your ticket from Australia.  Flights between islands are normally well under $80 each way and take take about 40-50 minutes. The airlines with the most flights daily are Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest.

ARRIVAL TIP

Most flights land very early in the morning, this can be can be very tiring if you don't sleep well on a plane so we have a few tips to help:
  • Coordinate an early check in if you can, before you get there
  • Have a plan for how you will spend the morning before you check in and have some idea of what to do for lunch and dinner do you aren't trying to work that all out while you are tired.
  • Don't plan on a big day of shopping or exploring, take the day for the beach or by the pool.
  • Having your bathers and sunscreen packed in your carry on means you can easily change and use the pool facilities while you wait.
